About the Organization

Empowering our children

The journey of Powerhouse Children’s Foundation has been marked by decades of unwavering dedication to the youth of Los Angeles County. From our inception, the foundation has committed itself to addressing the diverse and evolving needs of young people across the region’s communities. Anchored by a vision of equity and inclusion, we have continuously refined and expanded our services, adopting innovative, evidence-based approaches that foster personal growth, skill development, and meaningful engagement within community life.

Throughout this journey, we have cultivated strong partnerships with schools, community organizations, faith-based groups, healthcare providers, and families. These collaborations have enabled us to create safe, supportive, and welcoming environments where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

Our work is grounded in a steadfast commitment to trauma-informed care, accessibility, and culturally responsive practices. By reflecting and honoring the rich diversity of Los Angeles County, we strive to empower the next generation and build a more equitable future for all.

About Us

Powerhouse Children’s Foundation is committed to empowering young people to thrive holistically across all areas of their lives. Our work is centered on three core focus areas: promoting mental health and emotional well-being, providing academic support and preparation for postsecondary success, and equipping youth with essential life skills to confidently and resiliently navigate adulthood.

In addition to delivering direct services, we strengthen the broader youth support network by collaborating closely with caregivers, schools, and community organizations. Through training, after-school programs, and mentoring opportunities, we aim to uplift entire families and communities. By partnering with schools, community centers, and other youth-serving organizations, we ensure that our programs are accessible, culturally relevant, and sustainable—ultimately creating a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of the young people we serve.

Mission Statement

Powerhouse Children’s Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the full potential of young people by promoting their mental health, educational achievement, and overall well-being. We firmly believe that every youth deserves equitable access to opportunities that prepare them to become confident, capable, and thriving adults. Our holistic approach integrates emotional support, strong academic assistance, and the cultivation of essential life and social-emotional skills.

Through mentorship, accessible learning resources, leadership development, and practical skill-building, we equip young people with the resilience, sense of purpose, and self-assurance necessary for success.

At the core of our mission is a commitment to fostering leadership and civic responsibility among youth, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to their communities and society at large. Our work is grounded in the values of inclusion, integrity, and collaboration, with a steadfast belief that youth voices should play a central role in shaping the future.

Our Programs

Enhancing Psychological Support

To address the increasing mental health needs of youth, we are committed to delivering resources and counseling services to at least 300 young people annually. Our comprehensive approach includes providing in-school and community-based counseling, employing evidence-informed therapeutic methods, facilitating peer-support groups, and conducting resilience-building workshops.

Through these targeted efforts, we aim to enhance emotional well-being, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and expand access to early intervention services, ultimately fostering healthier, more resilient young individuals..

Improving Academic Performance

Recognizing that education is a critical foundation for future success, we have established tutoring and mentoring initiatives to serve approximately 1,200 students annually. Our approach features small-group and one-on-one tutoring, subject-specific coaching, homework assistance, and guidance in college and career readiness. These programs lead to measurable improvements in academic achievement, increased school engagement, and higher rates of graduation and postsecondary enrollment.

Fostering Life Skills Development

Preparing youth for adulthood requires more than academics alone, which is why we provide life skills programming to at least 1,150 young people each year. Participants take part in workshops covering financial literacy, communication and collaboration, goal-setting and time management, digital literacy, and leadership development, along with experiential learning opportunities. As a result, they gain stronger decision-making abilities, improved financial knowledge, enhanced self-efficacy, and the confidence needed for independent living.

Encouraging Community Involvement

By creating opportunities for meaningful service and civic participation, we empower young people to connect with their communities in impactful ways. These opportunities include annual service projects, mentorship circles, and youth-led community initiatives. Participants develop a deeper sense of belonging, strengthen their teamwork and leadership abilities, and build stronger connections to local needs and priorities. .

Building Sustainable Partnerships

Collaboration is key to creating lasting change, so we focus on strengthening relationships with schools, colleges, community organizations, healthcare providers, and businesses. Our efforts include forming formal partnerships, launching joint programs, establishing resource-sharing agreements, and engaging stakeholder advisory groups. These partnerships expand the network of resources available to youth, align programs with community needs, and enhance long-term sustainability.

Promoting Performing Arts

Through the performing arts, we open new pathways for young people to discover their talents and express themselves creatively. Our programs offer music, dance, theater, and spoken-word opportunities through after-school classes, workshops, and seasonal camps; connect youth with experienced mentors; and organize showcases, recitals, and community performances. Participation in these activities fosters creativity, builds confidence, strengthens communication and teamwork skills, and instills a sense of cultural pride and accomplishment

After-School Care and Summer Program

Recognizing the importance of safe, structured, and engaging environments outside of regular school hours, we offer comprehensive after-school care and summer programs for children and teens. These programs provide homework support, tutoring, enrichment activities in STEM and the arts, physical fitness, and recreational opportunities that promote social interaction and teamwork. During the summer, youth benefit from hands-on learning projects, field trips, leadership activities, and continued academic support to prevent learning loss. The outcomes include improved academic readiness, enhanced social-emotional skills, increased school engagement, and access to positive experiences that inspire lifelong learning and personal growth
